What We Believe

The Trinity

We believe that God reveals Himself as three distinct persons yet as one God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is the Father who sends the Son into the world; it is the Son who redeems the world by His blood; and it is the Holy Spirit who creates faith.

We also confess the three creeds of the Christian church, the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed. These confessions of the Christian faith are formal statements that teach what the Bible says about the Triune God, the salvation that comes through Jesus alone, and the Holy Spirit who gives life and salvation.

Jesus

We believe that Jesus the Christ is God’s own Son, who was born of the Virgin Mary, His mother. He was sent by His Heavenly Father to redeem the world by His life, sufferings, death, and resurrection from the dead. He lived the life we could not, His perfect life made His sufferings and death pleasing to God on our behalf, and His resurrection from the dead showed His victory over sin and death. It is by believing on His name that we have life and eternal salvation by the working of the Holy Spirit.

The Word of God

We believe that the Old and New Testaments, which make up the Scriptures, are alone the only guiding principle for the Christian faith. These books and writings are inspired by God as Paul says in 2 Timothy  3:16. The Bible is a faithful witness to the works of God in history. It is this faithful God who has preserved and kept His Word pure throughout the many years of the Christian church.

Life & Creation

We believe that God created in six days, resting on the seventh. It is this creating and sustaining God who desires us to care for what He has made. We believe that God desires us to live according to His will, as revealed in the Bible, concerning issues such as; life, marriage, and caring for the earth. Since all life is a gift from God, we desire to uphold life and not take it. Also, since the church is the bride of Christ, we believe Christian marriage should show the world what God intends for marriage because God created us man and woman and through that we see His will for marriage.

Education

Lutherans have been committed to Christian education since the Reformation in the mid 1500′s. This commitment to education, not only in matters of faith, but also in science, medicine, the arts, and various other fields is part of our commitment to this world in which God has placed us. Following that tradition we have a Christian school. The Good Shepherd Lutheran School was established to offer exceptional education and teach children the Christian faith.
